Colorado Springs, CO - A day after playing the University of Denver to a 2-2 tie, the UBC Thunderbirds men's hockey team lost 3-1 to Colorado College Saturday night in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Tigers are ranked 20th in US college hockey.
Colorado College opened the scoring 14:14 into the opening period on the power play as Cody Bradley beat
Steven Stanford (Calgary, AB) to give the Tigers at 1-0 lead through 20 minutes of play.
The Eagles added to their lead in the second period courtesy of Archie Skalbeck, to go ahead 2-0. Stanford was pulled half way through the game, playing 31:19 and allowing two goals on 14 shots. He was replaced by
Jordan White (Surrey, BC). The score remained 2-0 after two periods of play.
Scott Winkler scored shorthanded in the third period to extend the lead to 3-0 for the Tigers. The Thunderbirds spoiled the shutout as
Scott MacDonald (Surrey, BC) scored with less then a minute left in the game on the power play to get UBC on the board.
Scott Wasden (West Kelowna, BC) and
Cole Pruden (Winnipeg, MB) picked up helpers on the goal. 3-1 was the final score.
White stopped 19 of 20 shots he faced in net. UBC finished 1-for-5 on the power play, while the Tigers went 1-for-2. Colorado College outshot UBC 36-21.
UBC wraps up their three game exhibition tour through Colorado tomorrow night with a game against the Air Force Academy. Puck drop is at 5:00 pm PST.
