Kate Gillis was named Field Hockey Canada's Player of the Year for 2013.
A fourth-year forward, Gillis helped the UBC Thunderbirds women's field hockey team to their third straight CIS national title this past November. She was the Canada West Player of the Year in 2012 and a First-Team All-Canadian in 2012 and 2013.
She is also a mainstay on the Canadian national team with 94 international caps. Most recently she helped Canada to a third place finish at the Pan American Cup and for her outstanding play was named to the Pan American Elite All-Star Team along with teammate and fellow Thunderbird
Hannah Haughn.
This year Gillis and the national team are looking towards the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
