VANCOUVER – Former UBC Thunderbirds men's basketball player
Kamar Burke (Mississauga, Ont.) was selected in the
2012 National Basketball League of Canada draft today in Orangeville, Ont.
The Moncton Miracles drafted Burke in the first round, eighth overall, making him the first Canadian taken. Burke joins a Moncton team that finished with a record of nine wins and 27 losses in 2011, which was the inaugural year of the NBL Canada.
Last season, he was second in the Canada West conference with an average of 10.7 rebounds per game. Burke led UBC in rebounding in 17 of the team's 20 regular season games. He was also third on the team in scoring, averaging 11.8 points per outing.
Burke came to UBC after playing two years at Thompson Rivers. In his first campaign as a T-Bird, he was named an All-Star at the 2010 CIS Men's Basketball Final 8.
