VANCOUVER - This Saturday and sunday, the UBC Thunderbirds head to Vancouver Island to take on the ECHL's Victoria Salmon Kings for the final two games of pre-season action. Puck drop is 7:00 p.m. on Saturday and 12:00 p.m. on Sunday.
The Blue and Gold kicked off exhibition play looking strong in two wins over the SAIT Trojans. Last weekend's road trip against three of the top teams in NCAA Division I failed to yield a win, but the road games provided the 'Birds both a challenge and a chance to gel as a unit.
Playing against a professional team like Victoria will offer a similar opportunity. The Salmon Kings have sported a winning record for the last four seasons in a tough league that once featured current NHLers Tim Thomas, Joe Corvo, Andrew Brunette, and Alex Burrows.
The T-Birds begin their regular season October 15 and 16, when they host the University of Alberta Golden Bears for a pair of games at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre.
