Emily Cordonier is one of the best to ever put on a UBC Thunderbirds uniform.
She led UBC to silver medal finishes at the U SPORTS national championship in 2005 and 2006. Cordonier was a tournament all-star, Canada West All-Star, and U SPORTS All-Canadian in both of those years.
The left-side hitter from Vancouver earned Canada West Most Valuable Player recognition in 2006, a campaign that saw her lead UBC to the conference title.
Cordonier was just as remarkable off the court, winning the honour of the top student-athlete in Canadian university women’s volleyball in 2005.
That same year, she won the Marilyn Pomfret Trophy as UBC’s most outstanding female athlete.
Cordonier played on Canada’s senior national team for half a decade, serving as captain for three years, before retiring in 2009. As well, she spent two seasons competing professionally in France.
She continues to serve the sport, having worked as a commentator on the Canadian television broadcasts of the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games.
