London, England - Day one of the 2012 London Olympics saw a pair of UBC Thunderbirds in action, both in the pool.
Scott Dickens, swimming in his second Olympic games, finished 8th in his semi-final heat in the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:00:16, but failed to advance to tomorrow's final. Earlier in the day, Dickens set a new Canadian record in the event clocking a time of 59:85 in the preliminary round. Dickens has two more events to swim, including the 200m breaststroke and the 4x100m medley relay.
Heather MacLean was part of the women's 4x100m freestyle relay team that finished 5th in their heat in a time of 3:39:60. Unfortunately, it was not fast enough to advance to the final.
